Position Objective
The Life Chief Actuary is responsible for overseeing the pricing, valuation and other actuarial support functions for Life products and implementing strategies that provide profitable growth opportunities for the Life Company; supports overall corporate objectives.

Primary Accountabilities
- Valuation Oversight (30%)
- Provides oversight for the development of financial values for quarterly financial statements.
- Provides for the development and use of actuarial related financial projection models to support the analysis and valuation of Life operations.
- Oversees experience studies to include, but not limited to, mortality/morbidity, lapse and expense studies.
- Provides information regarding the impact of asset and/or liability decisions.
- Provides oversight for the completion of regulatory requirements (eg, Asset Adequacy Testing).

- Pricing Oversight (30%)
- Oversees analysis of recommending changes to Life dividends and interest crediting rates as experience changes.
- Directs the interaction with various reinsurers to provide coverage for mortality risk.
- Provides oversight for the completion of regulatory requirements (eg, Illustration Actuary Testing).

- Strategies Linked to the Division's Business Goals / Results (20%)
- Establishes, communicates, and implements departmental plans, objectives, and strategies.
- Participates as a member of the management team.
- Maintains an active awareness of American Family's business environments, corporate culture, and structure to support key decision making.
- Allocates resources to division and department priorities and initiatives.

- Management/Leadership for Operating Areas (10%)
- Manages direct reports, systems, and projects to achieve unit goals in accordance with company policies and practices.
- Prepares and analyze unit plans and reports.
- Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.
- Creates an effective work environment by developing a common vision, setting clear objectives, expecting teamwork, recognizing outstanding performance, and maintaining open communications.
- Develops staff through coaching, providing performance feedback, providing effective performance assessments, and establishing performance and development plans.

- Actuarial Department Administration (10%)
- Provides for actuarial expertise on various project teams at the corporate and division levels.
- Oversees data development and analysis and use of analytical tools to help support business areas.
- Directs the support to I/S and Business Systems Design regarding data and product changes to administration and illustration systems.
- Develops life actuarial strategies based on external industry and economic trends, and internal capabilities and business performance.
- Builds and maintains industry best practices on leading edge pricing, valuation and actuarial modeling techniques and strategies

Education/Licenses/Designations
- Fellow of Society of Actuaries.
- Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience counseling, consulting and negotiating to guide strategic business decisions across all levels of management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including people or project management.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of Life insurance products, pricing, valuation and other actuarial functions or processes.
- Extensive knowledge of market research and marketplace and regulatory trends in life coverage.

Travel Requirements
- This position requires travel up to 5% of the time
